LKYFB supported Temasek Polytechnic's student-led "Hear Me Out" campaign, which recommends Mother Tongue songs based on emotions, making bilingualism relevant to youth through music.
The Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism (LKYFB) supported Hear Me Out, a student-led campaign by Temasek Polytechnic’s Diploma in Business and Technology (DBTC), as part of its efforts to encourage youth-driven initiatives that promote bilingualism in relatable ways.
The campaign was well-received within the Temasek Polytechnic community, gaining strong traction among students. It centred on the idea of connecting emotions with music, recommending appropriate Mother Tongue songs based on how individuals were feeling at any given moment. This approach provided an accessible and engaging entry point for students to connect with Mother Tongue Languages through familiar and enjoyable mediums.
Through LKYFB’s support, the campaign was able to translate the concept of bilingualism into a format that resonated with its target audience. By tapping on music and emotions, Hear Me Out positioned Mother Tongue Languages as relevant to everyday experiences, rather than something confined to formal settings.
Overall, the project reflects LKYFB’s interest in supporting ground-up initiatives that are contextualised to youth culture and platforms. It also demonstrates how student-led campaigns can play a meaningful role in raising awareness of bilingualism within their own communities.
